I've been wondering if Toyota might use their flexible prowess to turn the Tundra plant into a hybrid factory thereby further positioning itself for a future when gas prices (eventually) go back up--not to mention that it would bolster Toyota's image as a "green" company. But Toyota always seems to make counter-intuitive "unexpected" decisions (most brilliant). We'll see what they end up doing...

Whatever happens, the next few years ain't gonna be pretty for anyone. Way too much automotive capacity in the U.S. with a shell-shocked market to boot. Something's gotta give...

I believe you are correct when you say the New Chrysler Consumer advisory board won't work, but for different reasons. Chrysler customers have tried forever to tell the company what is wrong with their vehicles, what they want in future products and have voted with their wallet on models already on the lots, yet most of this information has fallen on deaf ears. The look and feel of the new "advisory registration site" leads to a Chrysler product propaganda page. 1000 characters on a submit form does not an opinion or suggestion make. This entire announcement sounds and feels like nothing more than a marketing play. Too bad. The devoted Chrysler consumer, and I know tons of them, really have valid, quality information to share, and they DO KNOW WHAT THEY WANT, should Chrysler really want to listen.
www.mycarlady.com
www.everythingcars.wordpress.com

Imho the bottom line is that Fomoco needs to 'do' Lincoln first and has no reason to decide anything about Merc at the moment.

Also a Lincoln-success requires that they move upmarket... in which case there'll be pricing-room for Mercury;
plus,
a more subtle, international style, along with upscale features/trims, & FML's increasingly high quality ratings are most of what's needed to re-establish " Mercura - Meriniti - Meraudivvagen ".

Waiting until the globalized platforms start to come online makes $en$e.
(2-ish years)
They're probably not saying more just to try to keep the spotlight on their near-term intros.

Sorry, but how do we know this story about availability of the 50-state Honda diesel being moved up to MY'09 is even true? What's missing is 1) the name(s) of the Honda exec(s) who said this (or at least the customary "on condition of anonymity," etc.), 2) confirmation from the business world, 3) confirmation from American Honda, or 4) confirmation on any Honda Web site.

Problem for consumer is that I (personally) in the past found that the service I recieved on my car was BEST at single brand dealers.
Here now in NJ there is not a single stand-alone Pontiac dealer & only Buick stand alone dealer.
That stinks.

My uncle bought GM trucks and a Caprice Classic ; my folks bought a Camaro years ago. Because of these "exclusionary games" I'm looking at Toyota and Honda even though I'd like to buy American even though they send the work I might do for them offshore. So - until they knock off these games I guess I'll have to kick the comatose giant in the shins.

D.S. - Colorado
